DIRECTIONS FROM NEAREST TOWN:
From A9 turn into Aviemore. From the southern end of Aviemore turn East on the B970 SP The Cairngorms, Glenmore, and Rothiemurchus. Follow this road for approx. 1mile until the road to Freshiebridge cuts off to
the right. Turn onto this, then 1st left into the car park (opposite Rothiemurchus Visitors Centre).

COACH & CAR PARKING: At start point
PUBLIC TRANSPORT:Train or bus to Aviemore. Bus to Rothiemurchus. Please check as local transport is seasonal and is often affected by severe weather in winter.
Walk along the B970 in the direction of Coylumbridge passing Rothiemurchus Centre on your left. After approx. 250m take the second turning right signposted ‘Tullochgrue’ & Black Park’. Follow this minor road as it climbs gently through moorland and mixed woodland for approx. 650m to reach the first building on left.
Continue on road for a further 250m to reach a fork in the road by house called ‘Blackpark’. Bear left on road signposted ‘Tullochgrue’ & ‘Whitewell’. Follow road for approx. 1,300m as it winds its way uphill to reach cattle grid. Cross cattle grid and in approx. 100m and at first ‘Passing Place’ sign turn left and follow a rough path bearing right through gorse bushes and down the slope of heather and juniper scrub to join a clear track at the foot of the slope. Turn right and follow this track downhill to reach track t-junction. Turn right and follow track for approx. 1,100m (passing through two gates) to reach junction of tracks (with multiple path signs).
Turn right on track towards ‘Loch an Eilein’. At next track crossing, go straight ahead. Follow track ignoring all turnings as it bears left, then right to wind downhill across moorland and scattered pine woodland crossing 2 streams to reach t-junction. Turn right signposted ‘Aviemore’ and follow track with loch on left for approx. 700m to reach black metal gates. Go ahead through gates and follow track to pass house.
Continue to follow track to reach the end of loch. Turn left over wooden footbridge and go ahead for approx. 100m to reach ‘Loch an Eilein Visitor Centre’ (white cottage). Here you will find a picnic area and toilets.
Turn around and with the visitor centre behind you, go ahead and in approx. 20m turn left on footpath to reach car park. Walk through the car park passing the ‘pay booth’ on your right and bear left over a wooden bridge to reach the public road. Turn left along the road and after approx. 30m turn right on a clear track passing an ‘Estate Vehicles Only Please’ sign. Follow track bearing right and uphill. Continue to follow track for approx. 1,600m ignoring all turnings and passing through 1 gate to eventually reach house called ‘Blackpark’. At t-junction, turn left and after approx. 100m (at first lay-by on left) turn left past metal gate on narrow track. After appx 200m turn right on first narrow path. After appx. 50m and at track junction, turn right. Follow this track initially through woodland, then across an open area and then through another wooded area to reach road. Turn left on road and at road junction turn right to return to the Car Park.
