DIRECTIONS FROM NEAREST TOWN: Turn off the A9 into Pitlochry and park in the Car/Coach Park near the Railway Station.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION (Updated 15th October 2011)

Leave Car/Coach Park and follow signs for Pitlochry centre. At main road turn left, and at Larchwood Road turn right. Follow road uphill bearing left, then turning right into Golf Course Road and continue to reach an attractive pond called 'The Cuilc'. Turn right and continue to follow Golf Course Road passing pond on left to reach Pitlochry Golf Course. Continue ahead on minor road and follow for approx. 700m to reach t-junction. Turn right, pass Pitfourie Farm on left and follow lane downhill and round right hand bend to reach Kirkmichael Road (A924) by the Moulin Hotel. Turn left on Kirkmichael Road

Q1- On your left is a house number 15 - What is the name of this house?

Follow road uphill and after appx. 800m enter Kinnaird. Immediately before first house on right turn right through wooden gate onto footpath signposted ‘Black Spout 1’. Follow footpath downhill following left hand edge of field. At corner of field cross stile and go ahead crossing second stile to continue to follow footpath with stream on left and wire fence on right. Cross wooden bridge and turn left and go ahead through gate on footpath. At houses bear left on footpath alongside stream to reach tarmaced area. After 10m turn left on tarmac track signposted ‘Black Spout Wood & Edradour’. After 40m (as track bears right) turn left on footpath by metal gates. Go ahead on footpath between wire fences to reach gate. Go ahead across wooden bridge and bear right on footpath uphill through trees signposted ‘Black Spout Wood’. At top of incline, bear left through kissing gate and follow left hand edge of field. Go ahead through kissing gate, across wooden footbridge and up steps. Go ahead on footpath uphill and at path junction by house continue straight ahead on footpath signposted ‘Black Spout & Edradour’. At next path junction bear right signposted ‘Black Spout’. At next path junction bear right, then bear left and continue to follow footpath alongside waterfall to reach viewing platform.

Q2- When was the viewing platform constructed?

Turn right on footpath downhill signposted ‘Pitlochry’. At V junction bear left following main path downhill to reach junction with track. Turn right signposted ‘Pitlochry’. After approx. 60m (at end of golf course) turn left on footpath signposted ‘Pitlochry’. Follow footpath through woods following signs for ‘Pitlochry’. Cross wooden bridge and turn left towards ‘Pitlochry’. At next junction turn left (with stream on left), then bear right on main path. At next junction bear right uphill to reach track by houses. Turn left on tarmac track and follow track (which then becomes a road) downhill to reach t-junction with main road at entrance to ‘Atholl Palace Hotel’. Turn right and follow main road for approx. 950m, passing through Pitlochry before turning left into Rie-Achan Road (opposite The Auld Smiddy Inn) and return to Car/Coach Park.
