DIRECTIONS FROM NEAREST TOWN: From Petersfield take the A3 south towards Portsmouth, the Country Park is in appx 3 miles

ROUTE DESCRIPTION (Updated 31st December 2011)

With the main entrance to the Visitor Centre and commerative plaque on wall behind you, turn right to large wooden signpost and turn left sign Butser Hill 2km via South Downs Way. At tarmac footpath turn right and continue on South Downs Way under road, cross Visitor Centre road keeping to South Downs Way following blue top marker posts. Go through gate and climb uphill on wide grassy track towards communication mast in the distance, at gate continue ahead uphill on track for appx 250m bearing right towards mast. At gravel track in front of mast turn left and continue on tarmac lane for 150m, at right hand bend continue ahead across grass for 100m to fence and signpost. Through gate and continue on track to wooden bollards and car park, turn left on lane to exit by pay and display machine. Turn right on lane to pass brown sign on right.

Q1- What is the name of the Nature Reserve?

Continue ahead on South Downs Way alongside lane to eventually reach 4 way road junction, turn right on narrow lane sign post South Downs Way passing Homeland Farm on left and ahead under power lines. Continue on stony track for appx 400m and turn left on hidden footpath keeping high hedge on right to reach wood. Continue with wood on right for 50m to reach kissing gate on right, go through gate on footpath into wood continue on path and track ignoring all side tracks to go under power lines and ahead to reach black and white post in the middle of the path.

Q2- How many white rings are on the post?

Turn left on bridleway into wood, at track junction and signpost keep ahead on bridleway ignoring all side tracks to reach lane to. Turn left and in 75m turn right keeping on track into wood and at end bear right on wide grassy track between hedges to reach house on right called the Barn. Ahead to road. Turn left and continue ahead with care on road ignoring side roads to T junction, turn right and keep on pavement to pass the Hampshire Hog pub on right.

Q3- What is the name of the brewery that own the pub?

At road junction and roundabout turn left sign post Portsmouth A3- A3(M) over bridge and immediately turn left with care over crash barrier onto footpath down slope to kissing gate. Through gate and bear right across field to far corner of wood and sign post in the distance. Cross stile turn right for 10m, turn left for 5m through tree line and turn left on wide gravel bridleway continue ahead passing green and red footpath signs keeping on main track to go through wooden barrier to forest road. Turn left, in 20m turn right on South Downs Way, red and green footpath sign, passing BBQ area on left and children’s play area on right, to reach Visitor Centre and end of trail
