Turn right into Kings Lane, immediately past King's College through archway, at
end of Kings Lane, turn left into Queens Lane and at the junction with Silver
Street turn right to river bridge. (The bridge to your right is the
Mathmatical Bridge).
THE MATHMATIC BRIDGE is over the river at Queens College and was copied from a Chinese design. It was built entirely on mathmatic principles and not a nail or pin was used in its construction. There are plenty of nails in it now however. Students took the bridge to pieces in the 1740s to see how it was made. Unfortunately they were unable to put it back together again without quite a lot of D.I.Y.
Retrace footsteps back up Silver Street, cross road and turn right into Laundress Lane. At end of Laundress Lane turn right through posts and over river. Turn left and follow path along river bank to first fork in the path, take the right hand path away from the river. Cross two wooden foot bridges and reaching mill pond turn left towards The Fen Causeway. Cross this road via the pedestrian crossing into green, Lammas Land. After approximately 10 metres bear left and continue, past paddling pool to barrier. Go through barrier and turn left. Cross two footbridges into Coe Fen and continue straight on, following the path to the right of the field. Keep to this gravel path which eventually bears left on entering the second field and then joins Trumpington Road by the side of a house. Turn left and head back towards the city, the University Botanical Gardens are on the right on the opposite side of the road.
Q3. Please give the numbers and names of the houses immediately after turning left into Trumpington Road?
Continue along the left pavement until reaching a pedestrian crossing. Cross the road at this point and continue straight on along Trumpington Road until reaching a set of mini roundabouts. Turn right into Lensfield Road, signposted to Newmarket and Ely. Pass the Scott Polar Institute on the right and cross road. Upon reaching traffic lights, turn left into Regent Street, later passing the entrance to Downing College on the left and into St Andrews Street. Turn left into Downing Street, opposite Emmanuel College, and continue straight on down into Pembroke Street. Cross to right hand side of road and turn right into Free School Lane, opposite Pembroke college, passing the rear of Corpus Christi College on the left. At the end of Free School Lane turn right into Benet Street and then left into Peas Hill, the tourist information office is opposite. Continue into Market Hill and aim for the diagonally opposite corner of the Market Square into Market Street. Walk down Market Street to its junction with Sidney Street and turn right.
Q4. After passing Marks & Spencer's store there is a Lloyds/TSB bank. Who owned the bank when it was built?
Continue along Sidney Street and pass the entrance to Christ's College on the left. Continue straight on past Bradwell's Court and turn left into Emmanuel Street. This is the end of your walk.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE THROUGH KINGS COLLEGE GROUNDS.
Follow the footpath
round the quadrangle and into the grassed area at the back. Leave the college
grounds by the footbridge in the far left-hand corner through the iron gates and
into Queens Road. Turn left and almost immediately bear left along the
gravelled path across the grass, part of the Backs. The path terminates in
Silver Street. Turn left and cross the bridge. On the left is the Mathmatical
Bridge. Continue along Silver Street to its junction with Kings Parade and
Trumpington Street. Turn right into Trumpington Street. Pass the Fitzwilliam
Museum on the right and onto the junction with the Fen Causeway. Turn right

over the river. Cross the river and continue straight on, following the path
to the right of the field. Keep to this gravel path which eventually bears left
