ROUTE DESCRIPTION

Return along Church Meadow road, then turn right uphill for 250m. Turn right up flight of steps onto a short path and after 25m cross stile and continue ahead to pass through two kissing gates. Bear left to far end of church wall, through kissing gate and bear left uphill to kissing gate by metal gate and head diagonally uphill across field towards left hand end of wood. Through kissing gate and go ahead with woods on right to reach kissing gate and road. Turn left on road and after 20m, turn right on driveway, sign post – footpath Nettleton, just after “Amaravati Centre” sign
Q1.
What is the “Amaravati Centre”?
At far end of drive, follow footpath ahead, passing
field on right, continue along path, going downhill to reach road. Turn left
into ‘Nettleden,’ and by “Pightle Cottage”, turn right uphill. The road soon
becomes a rough lane and passes under a bridge. Continue over brow of hill, turn
right through kissing gate and continue along farm track. Go through gate and
continue straight ahead. At next fence/building ignoring kissing gate in front,
turn left through kissing gate (with tree on path) to reach open field and
follow left hand hedge downhill and into a narrow path. At far end turn left on
road to Frithsden. Where road forks bear right to pass the Alford Arms public
house. After 200m, turn right at road junction and follow right hand verge, then
after a further 40m cross road WITH
Q2. What is the name of the farm by the turning?
Continue uphill for 250m and after passing
under power lines, turn right immediately after wooden seat through kissing gate
and ahead to reach another kissing gate. Continue ahead to reach another kissing
gate/ farm track. Follow track to pass allotments and the Plough public house
into ‘Potten End’. At cross roads, go ahead on Church Road passing village shop
on right and at second cross roads turn left (this is Water End Road). Follow
road for 1300m ignoring all side turnings to leave ‘Potten End’ and pass
derestriction speed signs. Stay on left hand verge and follow road round left
hand bend. At end of brown wooden fence on left, turn left on footpath by
Marlowe House and with sign to ‘
Q3. What long distance footpath are you on?
Continue through gate and ahead on left hand side of field with fence on left, after 250m, when fence swings left, ahead across field aiming for telegraph pole and then large wooden bridge. Cross over small plank bridge to reach large bridge over stream, turn left across water meadow and head for kissing gate in far corner. Through gate and left uphill ignoring left hand path and continue into woods for 400m. Over brow of hill, by holly bushes and pit, turn right between holly bushes to footpath sign and leave woods to continue on footpath with hedge on right. On reaching gap in hedge, turn right to follow footpath downhill, with hedge on left, at end of hedge turn left along hillside to kissing gate. Through gate and bear right with wood on right, ahead to next kissing gate, through gate and ahead on track to reach road. Turn right on road & follow downhill for 275 metres passing large white house (Pipers House) on left, turn left into Church Meadow and end of walk.
