Exit car park via main pedestrian exit (by dark green toilet block). Cross road at marked crossing place, through metal posts, onto a footpath to pass between pond on left and high wall on right. Continue to main road. Cross road with care and turn left.  Just passed the Eight Bells public house car park, turn right through metal gate into Bridge End Gardens. Follow footpath to a ‘T’ junction and turn right through a gateway, uphill, through an archway into a narrow passage, passing the Fry Art Gallery on right.  Exit the passage and turn left into Castle Street then right into Museum Street passing the museum entrance on the left and church on the right. Continue to next cross roads. Cross into Market Hill and down to the Market Square. On the right is the old Corn Exchange now a library and directly in front the Town Hall.

Question 1 - On the Town Hall right hand side first floor side wall is a blue plaque. Who was burnt at the stake?

Turn right into King Street and keep ahead to the main road.  Cross road with care and turn left along the High Street, at traffic lights turn right into Abbey Lane. Pass the United Reform Church on right, then Almshouses, founded by King Edward VI, also on right.  Go through iron gates into Audley Park and bear left on path uphill. Keep straight ahead up this path to reach an iron gate to the right of a cottage. Leave the park via the gate and turn right on road. Pass the entrance to Audley End House, on right, and continue along road, miniature railway on left.  Cross a ‘weak’ bridge to road junction and turn left onto a roadside footpath. Continue to next road junction and turn right on road with care along avenue of Horse Chestnut trees, sign-posted to Littlebury Green. After approx. 1Km, just before motorway bridge, turn right through metal gate.  Continue uphill along a grass track to road. Turn right on road into Littlebury. At cross roads, cross with care to the church.

Question 2 - Just inside the Churchyard gate on the right, under the 1st tree, is a gravestone. What year did Joseph Rickard die?

Continue ahead downhill church on left. At next road junction turn right and cross river-bridge. Immediately over bridge turn left at footpath finger post on left, go through hedge into playing field. Keep along bottom edge of field to exit in corner by children’s play equipment, onto a narrow path. At junction with track turn left and keep straight on to main road (track may be overgrown towards its end).  Turn left on road and ahead with great care for approx. 1 Km, (walk on verge where possible) towards Little Chesterford. Just before Springwell Nurseries, turn right at concrete footpath finger post by farm on right. Continue uphill on track passing under pylon wires to top of rise. At top of track turn right along path.

Question 3 - As you turn right there is a row of wooden electricity poles running parallel with path. How many overhead wires are supported by them?

Continue along path with ditch/hedge on left, eventually Saffron Walden comes into view. Continue to a metalled farm road and turn left. After about 150m, turn right onto a path between fields, sign-posted to Saffron Walden.  When path reaches edge of town, turn right uphill, tall hedge and house on left. Follow path around field edges keeping hedge on left then wall on left. Finally turn right to main road.  Cross road with care and turn left, pass the Eight Bells public house on left. Turn right into Freshwell Street and back to car park and end of walk.
