TERRAIN:- Urban areas, roads, & canal/riverside
paths. There is one flight of steps, other than that the
route is suitable for pushchairs.
REFRESHMENTS:- Can be purchased at start & on
the route.

NOTE:- Lady Bay Bridge is temporarily closed. Whilst it remains closed it is necessary to divert the route at the scored through text and follow the diversion shown at the bottom of the route description.
Exit station & cross road. Turn left along Carrington St. & follow into Sheriffs Way (Queen’s Hotel on corner.
Q1. WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE BREWERY TAP OF THE “VAT & FIDDLE”?
At traffic lights cross Waterway St. West then Meadows Way & continue straight ahead along Queens Walk. Pass Pilgrim Holiness Church on left. Go under rd.bridge & continue ahead to traffic island. Turn left through gates onto Victoria Embankment, cross rd. To riverside & continue along riverbank (the River Trent is one of the few rivers in England that flows NORTH) passing suspension bridge (DO NOT CROSS THIS). Pass large white War Memorial Gates LHS. 100metres before Blue & Yellow painted bridge (TRENT BRIDGE)bear left up pavement. At rd. Turn right
Q2.IMMEDIATELY ON RHS THERE IS A PLAQUE, TO WHOM IS IT IN MEMORY OF?
Do NOT cross rd. But continue ahead making towards Nottinghamshire County Cricket Clubs floodlights. (At far end of Trent Bridge you have the option of a very slight de-tour ) as the pavement bears right, turn left at crossing to view two arches of a much earlier Trent Bridge then retrace your steps and go forward back down towards the river & turn right under Trent Bridge passing Nottingham Forest F.C. ground (The first English team to win, then successfully defend the European Cup). Continue along river over canal bridge (start/end of the Grantham Canal) then just before next bridge(Lady Bay Bridge) go up steps to rd.& turn left along rd. To traffic lights turn left & continue ahead (ignore bend in rd.). After passing Notts County FC (the oldest football club in the world) ground the rd. Splits, take the RH fork passing “Alltools Ltd”. Where rd. Turns right ignore this & carry straight on down steps to LHS of stone bridge & descend to canal. Turn right along towpath. After passing under four bridges go up slope to right, cross bridge & exit onto London Rd.(not signed as such at this point) Turn right & continue to large traffic island head diagonally left across two roads & island to left of “Shell” petrol Station. Turn right passing the front of the petrol station & follow rd. To left uphill. Take 2nd.left (Hollow Stone) . At top of hill continue straight on into High Pavement passing Church on right
Q3. WHAT IS SITUATED AT 54-56 HIGH PAVEMENT?
Carry on along High Pavement passing the GALLERIES OF JUSTICE & Lace Hall. At junction with “Weekday Cross” (by statue) turn right. Continue ahead as this becomes Fletcher Gate. At top of rd. Turn left down Victoria St. As the rd. Swings left continue ahead down Cheapside passing “Council House” on right hand side. At the end of the building (Coventry Building Society) turn right passing the front of the “Council House” (this building is depicted in the “trail” award) & then go up King St. (directly opposite). Take left fork in rd.(Queen St.) & go to end. Cross rd. At pedestrian lights towards Turf Tavern PH. T urn left then immediately right at pub to pass the front of the Royal Concert Hall. Cross over rd. at pedestrian lights & go straight down South Sherwood St. At traffic lights at the bottom of the hill turn left.(although it is currently partially obscured by temporary? Fencing Nott’m University is an impressive building) Immediately before zebra crossing turn left up steps & passageway to rd. At rd. turn left & go to traffic lights. Cross rd. & continue straight ahead. Cross two more roads at pedestrian lights & carry straight on down Market St. To market square. Continue straight ahead down Wheeler Gate (between Starbucks & Costa). At rd. junction bear right down pedestrianised area (Marks & Spencers on left) & then turn 1st right up Castle Gate. Towards the top of the rd. turn right (Royal Children PH on corner) into Saint Nicholas St. & then left again up passageway just after Ye Old Salutation Inn
Q4. WHAT DATE IS WRITTEN ON THE SIDE OF THE INN?
At rd. turn left & then cross at pedestrian lights. Continue ahead up Castle Gate passing Costume & Textile Museum on left. At end of Castle Gate pause! (The entrance to the castle is on the right if you wish to visit & the statue of Robin Hood just in front) Turn left downhill passing Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Inn on right
Q5. WHAT DATE IS ON THIS INN?
After passing (Or better still paying a visit, well worth the modest entry fee!) Brewhouse Museum on right continue to bottom of rd. & turn left to traffic lights. Cross rd. (Castle Boulevard) & continue straight ahead along Wilford St.(Evening Post building on LH corner). Go over canal bridge & turn right onto towpath. Turn right again under bridge you have just walked over & continue along towpath over bridge ahead (Magistrates Court on RHS). Just after bridge turn right & then immediately left up slope back to Carrington St. & the Station.
TEMPORARY DIVERSION DUE TO LADY BAY BRIDGE CLOSURE
After the bridge follow footpath up to tarmac road and turn right. At top
at T junction turn right (re-crossing the bridge) and continue ahead.
Cross 'Quayside Close', and at next road turn right and cross road, turn left
down 'Navigation Walk' and at bottom turn left and continue as per original
route.
