Take A38 and A390 from Plymouth to reach Lostwithiel. Cross rail and river
bridges before turning left into car park by Community Centre.
CAR PARKING: At start venue.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Bus service within 1km of start.
TERRAIN: Minor roads, farmland and woods.
Leave car park on path passing Lostwithiel Scout Group HQ and in direction of ‘Toilets & Shops’. At road turn left towards railway station. Continue ahead over river bridge & level crossing. As road bears right, turn left into Mill Hill and follow to reach main road. Cross road WITH CARE using traffic islands and continue ahead into Cott Road. Follow road to cross small stone bridge. Continue on road passing under wooden footbridge for approx. 550m. Pass minor road junction on right to reach woods on right. After approx. 250m turn left over stile by five bar gate onto public footpath. Follow footpath downhill through woods bearing left to reach path T-junction. turn right passing wooden seat on right to reach track. turn left and follow track through gate and over railway and river bridges.

Continue on track with metal fencing on right to reach farm buildings. turn left through stone gateway following public footpath sign. Follow to reach road. turn right on road to reach Restormel Farm. Continue ahead through gateway bearing right on tarmac drive and follow passing between farm buildings. Continue on lane with river to right for approx. 1,000m ignoring road on left to reach water treatment works. Continue ahead on track passing through metal gate. Continue straight ahead across field to wooden gate. Go through gate & continue ahead on path between fields to reach red wooden gate. Go through gate & turn left on track. At fork bear left to reach farm track.

Bear right over road to stone steps in wall. Climb steps and cross wall into Great Wood. Follow path uphill through woods ignoring all paths merging from right. Follow path to top of hill & at T-junction with track, turn right. Follow track as it slopes downhill passing between rhododendrons & camellias to reach gate. Go through gate & turn right on driveway, bearing left to reach the 17th century gatehouse. Continue ahead on driveway following direction of arrow to ‘Way Out & Car Park’. Follow driveway to reach road. turn right on road and follow for approx. 450m passing cricket ground on left. At road junction, cross road & continue ahead on track signposted ‘Public Footpath’. After approx. 50m, bear right through gate following yellow arrow on post. Follow wide stony track for approx. 200m before turn right following yellow arrow on footpath between birch trees. Follow path through woods ignoring all turnings. Path starts to descend through woods & at fork bear right following yellow arrow. Continue on path ignoring all turnings to reach road.

Turn left on road & after approx. 10m turn right through gate. turn right immediately onto tarmac drive. (Station Drive) At end of drive by Station Lodge, go through gate & turn left on road. Pass car park on left & cross Respryn Bridge, whose central arch dates from the 15th century. At far side of bridge, turn right through gate taking right hand fork along the bank of the River Fowey. Continue on riverside path to reach Kathleen Bridge. Cross river & turn left following path beside river. Follow path for approx. 350m & as river turns left, bear right & continue on path to reach gate. Go through gate & after approx. 20m, turn left through gate with sign ‘Footpath to Restormel Castle’. Follow path between fields to reach wooden gate. Go through gate & continue ahead across next field to reach metal gate. Go through gate & continue ahead, initially on track & then on tarmac lane. Pass water treatment works on left & follow lane to reach road junction. Continue ahead on lane with views of Restormel Castle ahead to the right in the trees. Follow lane to eventually pass between farm buildings. Continue on lane through gateway. Ignore turning on right to castle & continue ahead on lane for approx. 250m. turn right over stile. turn left on footpath alongside lane. Follow footpath as it turns right & at junction of paths turn left crossing stream & continue in same direction as road to reach gate & stile. Do not cross stile, but bear right on path keeping road on left. Go downhill to reach gate & stile by stream.

Cross stile & turn right on road continuing in same direction as before. Follow road for approx. 600m to reach T-junction. turn right & follow main road to reach pedestrian crossing. Cross main road using crossing & bear left into Fore Street (signposted ‘ Toilets’). Pass shops & as road bear left the Cornwall Army Cadet Force building is in front of you.

Turn left into Parade Square and continue ahead on road to left of The Monmouth Hotel. At road junction, continue straight ahead between buildings to reach car park and the end of the walk.
