DIRECTIONS FROM NEAREST TOWN: Bovey Tracey - From A38(T), take
the A382 to Bovey Tracey and continue straight over first roundabout. At the
second roundabout, by the fire station turn left sign posted "Manaton 5". Follow
this road to reach the village of Manaton and in the centre of the village turn
right sign posted "Parish Hall". The car park can then be found immediately on
your left.
ROUTE DESCRIPTION
Leave the car park at the exit nearest to the church. Cross the green & TL on road. 25m after passing the parish hall on left, TR onto BW signposted to “Lustleigh Cleave”. Pass through gate & continue ahead on BW to reach second gate with sign “cyclists slow down”. Continue ahead on sunken BW to eventually reach cross tracks. TL on FP towards “Horsham Steps”. Follow path round LH side of house & at fork, take RH path through gate towards “Horsham Steps”. Continue on FP with wall on left to cross stile & enter nature reserve. Follow FP steeply downhill & at path junction, TL onto FP signposted “Foxworthy Drive County Road”. (To see Horsham Steps, follow FP straight ahead for approximately 200m & then return). Follow FP gently uphill for approximately 700m, ignoring all turnings to reach road by wooden gate. TR on lane signposted “Foxworthy for paths to the Cleave”. After approx. 25m, TR onto FP by fire beaters. At end of path, TR over river bridge to reach FP signpost.

TR on BW towards “Hammerslake”. Follow
track with wooden post & rail fence on left & as track turns right by wooden
signpost, BL on BW. Go through
wooden gate & follow BW through woods, following direction of wooden “Path”
signs. At FP junction, go ahead on
BW towards “Hammerslake for Lustleigh”. Follow well defined BW through woods
ignoring all turnings & gradually climbing uphill for approx. 1,400m following
wooden “Path” signs to reach t-junction of paths by wooden signpost. TL towards
“Hammerslake” & follow FP uphill. Continue on FP, ignoring all turnings, for
approx. 300m to pass house on right to reach FP junction by 5-bar gate. TR
through gate & follow sunken FP to reach road. TL on road.
Q2: What is cottage name on gate next to post box on right hand side?
Continue to follow road round LH bend &
as road bears right, TL up stone steps on FP towards “Cleave Paths, Manaton,
Foxworth & Hisley Bridge”. Cross driveway, cross stile & go ahead across field.
Follow FP into woods & cross stile built into wall. BL uphill (with barbed wire
fence on right) to pass through gateway by large rock. Immediately BR & after
approx. 10m TR on well defined FP. Follow FP uphill between mossy stone
boulders, ignoring all turnings to reach crest of hill with views ahead over
Dartmoor. BR & continue to follow well defined FP as it meanders along the crest
of the hill with stone wall on right & Cleave on left. Leave woods & continue
ahead, following FP through gorse covered clearing ignoring all turnings to
reach 5-bar gate in wall by large rock outcrop. Go through gate & BR in
direction of signpost & follow FP downhill for approx. 200m to reach path
signpost. TL & follow FP downhill. Go through gate, TR through second gate &
continue to follow FP downhill to reach farm buildings. Go through gate in
corner & go ahead on farm track. Follow track ignoring all turnings to reach
road. TL & follow lane downhill WITH CARE. Cross river bridges & continue to
follow lane uphill. At road junction, ignore LH turn & continue ahead towards
“North Bovey”. Follow lane to reach t-junction.

What is the name of the cottage on your right?
TL towards “Manaton” & after approx. 100m, as road bears right, TL through gate on FP towards “Manaton”. Follow FP diagonally across field, passing to right of electric pole to reach corner. Go through gateway & BR across stream to cross stone stile. Go ahead on FP & follow FP through woods ignoring all turnings. Cross stile & continue ahead on FP. BR at end of row of boulders to reach stile. Cross stile & go ahead on FP & after approx. 20m at FP signpost, TL on FP towards “County Road Manaton”. Follow FP to reach road. TR & follow road for approx. 450m to pass church & return to car park & end of walk.
