DIRECTIONS FROM NEAREST TOWN:
Barnstable
- Leave M5 at junction 27 on A361 towards Barnstaple. Take first exit, sign posted "Tiverton B3391".
Turn Left and at the next roundabout, continue straight ahead into
Heathcote Way.
At next roundabout by pedestrian footbridge, Turn Right sign posted "Town
Centre". At the next roundabout continue straight ahead to reach further
roundabout. Turn Right into Phoenix
Lane sign posted "Town Centre Parking". This will
lead you past the bus station and tourist information centre into the
Phoenix Lane
car park (Pay & Display).
ROUTE
DESCRIPTION

Make your way to the Tourist Information
Centre and walk gently uphill on the road to the right of the TIC towards the
bank and shops. At the green signpost, at the top of
Phoenix Lane, turn left. At T-junction by
St George’s Parish Church, turn left. Continue along this
road, passing Tiverton
Museum on your left and at
the end of the road, continue ahead over metal footbridge. Continue ahead on
road and immediately after crossing river, turn right sign posted on fence "Collipriest
1/2 Mile/The Cats Whiskers", passing sewage pumping station on right. Continue
along this road for approximately 700m with river on right, passing Collipriest
and Garden Cottage/Higher Collipriest drives on left.
At next concreted drive with red “dead slow” sign turn left. Continue
uphill, passing Woodcote on left, continue straight on following hill round
right hand bend to reach gate by house. Go through the gate and continue ahead
on track through field. Pass through second gate keeping to the track, and just
before the third gate go over stile on right and turn left carrying on in the
same direction, uphill through gate and follow track to top of field and go
through gate. Turn right on road and after ten metres turn left onto track to
reach transmitter mast.

Carry straight ahead downhill to reach farm
buildings and tarmac lane, turn left along lane. Continue ahead to reach T
junction at minor road. Cross road and go through gate. Turn left and
follow hedge line round field to reach stile on left at start of woods. Cross
stile and turn right following wood and fence and then hedge on right to gate
ahead. Go through gate and ahead with hedge on right to reach another gate. Go
through gate and continue on footpath enclosed by hedges to reach gate and road
at Lower Warnicombe. Turn right on road for
approximately 400m, passing Watermead House to T junction at Thurlescombe Cross.
Turn left down hill to reach bridge over canal and immediately turn right
through mini car park to towpath. Turn right on towpath to pass under
Manley
Bridge to reach notice
board and memorial stone on right.

Continue on towpath on right hand side of
canal for approximately 1500m to reach end of canal. Turn right on road (Canal
Hill) and continue to reach mini roundabout. Bear left and cross Deymans Hill
and immediately turn right onto pedestrian footpath down steps. Cross main road
using pedestrian crossing and turn left to reach roundabout. Turn right into
Station Road and continue along road passing Old
Blundell's School on left.

was the school founded?
Bear left over river bridge into
Gold Street. Continue along road between shops and
turn right just before pedestrian zone into Bampton Street. At staggered junction turn
left into Newport Street
and ahead to reach the parish
church
of St Peter. Turn left
into St Peter's Street
and continue to reach United Reformed Church on right. Turn left on high
pavement and continue ahead into
Fore Street. At green pedestrian signpost turn right
towards TIC and end of walk.
