ROUTE DESCRIPTION
Turn left at entrance to Leisure Centre and follow tree lined tarmac drive to the main road. TURN RIGHT and continue on footpath to pass traffic island on left and houses on right. Go past “New Road” and the “Rising Sun” to the pedestrian crossing. WITH CARE cross the road, TURN RIGHT and continue to “Chippy”. At Footpath sign TURN LEFT on track and follow track to Ivy Tree Cottage, continue on footpath. (SEE VIEWS ON YOUR LEFT OF THE WEST MIDLANDS SAFARI PARK.) Footpath descends to Severn following footpath that TURNS RIGHT under viaduct. Follow wide track to main road. WITH CARE cross road. TURN RIGHT, going past Bewdley Middle School
Q. 1: What features on the School Logo?
Continue to Bewdley Middle School and in 80m TURN LEFT on Acacia Ave. to River Severn. TURN RIGHT, with River Severn on your left. (ACROSS THE RIVER ARE VIEWS OF THE GEORGIAN TOWN OF BEWDLEY). Follow river footpath to road and TURN LEFT on the road. In 130m TURN LEFT through metal gate and follow footpath to go under Bewdley Bridge (BUILT BY THOMAS TELFORD IN 1801 AT A COST OF £1100). At road TURN LEFT and then BEAR RIGHT on footpath, with Bowling Club on left to a wooden gate. At the caravan site BEAR LEFT on gravel footpath, maintain direction to cross open green diagonally to caravan site entrance.
Q. 2: What is the name of the caravan site?
At Northwood Lane TURN LEFT and in 200m at house No 23, TURN RIGHT under the railway bridge. Go over stile and BEAR LEFT ascending field to way-marked gatepost. Continue forward with hedge on left, to go over a stile by a gate. Maintain direction to a gate and another stile in field corner. Pass over stile and BEAR RIGHT to the wooden fence and BEAR LEFT to fence corner. TURN RIGHT to follow fence to a footpath sign and stile. With barn conversions on right continue to lane. TURN LEFT on lane, past cottage and farm buildings to maintain direction on lane. Lane goes past Woodland Trust.
Q. 3: What is the name of the Wood?
At the end of the lane, sign “The Riddings”, BEAR RIGHT on track (Blue Way-marker) to field gate. With hedge on right follow farm track to another gate. (ON THE LEFT ARE EXTENSIVE VIEWS INTO SHROPSHIRE INCLUDING THE HILLS OF TITTSTONE AND BROWN). Continue on track to a metal gate and Halls Farm. Go past farm buildings to Halls Lane. Ignore side footpath and remain on the lane to reach crossroads. Continue forward to descend on road, to the Horse-Riding road sign and cross- footpath post. TURN RIGHT on footpath through coppice to cross a house drive and continue forward on another footpath. Follow this to reach a metal gate and open field. (VIEWS ON THE RIGHT EXTEND OVER THE SAFARI PARK TO THE DISTANT MALVERN HILLS). Descend field to another metal gate. Through coppice and TURN RIGHT on footpath that descends on wooden steps to a fence on the right. Continue on footpath to reach a house drive. TURN LEFT on the drive to reach an open area (Abberley Valley). (IT WAS ONCE PART OF THE CHANNEL THAT DIVIDED ENGLAND AND WALES. A BATTLE BETWEEN KING ALFRED AND THE DANES TOOK PLACE HERE). TURN RIGHT follow main track through Abberley Valley to a tarmac drive. With Golf Course on right continue on tarmac drive to main road (B4190). TURN RIGHT and follow road to the Ramada Hotel Entrance. WITH CARE cross the road and follow drive to Leisure Centre and finish.
