York Tourist Walk

A walk around and through the ancient city of York visiting most of the
walls, York Minster, the Shambles, the Jorvik Centre and both the rivers
on which York stands. We advise four hours to do the walk because
there are so many places that invite you to visit them. This walk is not
suitable for pushchairs as there are frequent steps. It is however
recommended for children, as there are so many places on interest that
break the walk into sections.
York City and River Trail

This walk complements the York Tourist walk.
Beside visiting some parts of the city, it goes out to
Walmage Stray and then heads for the Millennium Bridge
across the River Ouse before returning to the city.
Bolton Priory &
Strid
(PT 132)

This walk takes you upstream to
pass 'The Strid' where the River Wharf forces its way through a gap only
a few feet wide. It then continues to reach Barden Bridge.
You will
return to the start and then walk downstream to the ruins of Bolton
Priory, a centre of Christian worship for over 800 years.
Settle
Railway Walk

A linear walk on a
section of the Ribble Way, from the ancient market town of Settle to the
finish a Horton in Ribblesdale. Return on the famous Settle to Carlisle
Railway line

One of the highlights of the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage
coast is Robin Hood's Bay. An attractive old fishing village on
the north side of the wide sweeping bay. The bay is well known for
fossils and numerous sea birds.

Wentworth &
Elsecar Heritage Trail

A pleasant walk through the villages of Wentworth
and Elsecar and the fields between. The walk visits several places
connected with the industrial heritage of the area including the ‘Elsecar
Heritage Centre’. Wentworth is an old estate village with virtually all
buildings belonging the Wentworth Estate. They can be recognised by
their distinctive green paint. Indeed cottages that still belong to the
estate can be picked out in several surrounding villages in the area.
Wentworth Follies & Woodhouse Trail

A pleasant 10km walk from Wentworth around the old Wentworth estate. The
walk passes or gives views of most of the follies connected with the
Wentworth estate and finishes through the Wentworth Deer Park and
passing Wentworth Woodhouse.
Stainborough &
Wentworth Castle Heritage Trail

This trail links some of the Follies & Monuments in the only Grade 1
listed Parkland in Yorkshire. It gives views of Wentworth Castle House, and
passes a fortified Tudor Manor House, which was held for the King in the
English Civil War.

Compo's Crawl
(PT 93)

The walk starts and finishes in the small town of Holmfirth, (famous for
"Last Of The Summer Wine"). There is ample parking around the town, &
the nearest railway station is at Huddersfield. The walk passes Compo’s
house, then climbs to higher ground, skirting the edge of the Peak Park.
Then follow the river back to the town. All tastes are catered for
in the various shops and cafes in Holmfirth. It is
unsuitable for pushchairs or toddlers. Terrain is fairly rugged in
some areas, and there are no on-route refreshments.
